I'm Dave Fitzgerald, I established Afan Photography after leaving the Royal Air Force and settling in Cwmavon.
Motivation
I've had a camera in my hands, or very close by, since I was given my first camera, a Kodak Instamatic (a genuine point and shoot!), as I left for on an Air Cadet Summer Camp to Malta. Shortly after joining the Royal Air Force, I got my hands on my first 'real camera', a Pentax Spotmatic, which gave me an insight into the complexities, and fun, of photography. I soon replaced the borrowed Pentax with my own Canon AV-1 and, throughout my 24 years in the RAF, took every opportunity to expand my knowledge through formal training and extensive practical experience. Despite my experience, I continue to invest in training to ensure I keep up to date with both the latest techniques and styles of photography and the technology and software that, these days, are essential to the business. As a member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers I have the backup of a professional body which provides ongoing training and support.
Company
Afan Photography started business shortly after we moved to Cwmavon during 2004. Initially I undertook a small range of commissions, shooting portraits in my home, or in client's homes, using portable backdrops and lighting while I looked for local premises suitable for a small studio. My studio is now located at 4 Grove Place, Port Talbot. Drop in for a chat and a coffee any time!
In 2007 I added a framing workshop to the studio and now offer a bespoke framing service. I also repair and reglaze frames.
